Singing the Story, Shaping the Journey

This session explores the art of thematic programming as a pathway to more impactful performances. Participants will gain tools for innovative repertoire selection, dramaturgy, and interdisciplinary connections that bring stories to life on stage. Drawing from examples at Boston Children’s Chorus, we will develop frameworks adaptable to your own ensembles, with strategies to expand storytelling across diverse communities. A secondary focus will highlight rehearsal approaches for mixed-level groups, including deep score preparation, dynamic warm-ups, and techniques for introducing new music within socially conscious contexts. By blending programming vision with rehearsal tactics, this session equips educators to engage singers more deeply in narrative and artistry, ultimately empowering audiences and performers alike to experience choral music as an embodied story and a shared journey.
